Story Highlights:

Toronto Blue Jays adds experienced pitching depth as part of its ongoing offseason rebuild.

Toronto continue fine-tuning their roster following last season’s World Series run.

Toronto Blue Jays are pushing all their chips in ahead of the 2026 MLB season, continuing an aggressive offseason aimed at returning to the World Series.

Fresh off a heartbreaking seven-game loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in last year’s Fall Classic, Toronto has made clear its intention to remain among baseball’s elite.

General manager Ross Atkins has been proactive throughout the winter, reinforcing the roster after an American League pennant-winning campaign.

While the club endured notable departures and missed out on some headline targets, Toronto has quietly continued to add depth and experience across the board.

Josh Fleming added as pitching depth option

On Saturday, Toronto Blue Jays announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Josh Fleming to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training. The club confirmed the move on social media:

“OFFICIAL: We’ve signed LHP Josh Fleming to a Minor League deal with an invite to Spring Training. Additionally, we’ve invited RHPs Tanner Andrews and Nate Garkow to Spring Training.”

Fleming brings valuable major league experience to Toronto’s pitching mix. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, the left-hander has spent parts of five seasons at the big-league level.

His most recent MLB action came in 2024 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he made 25 appearances, including three starts.

During that season, Fleming posted a 4.02 ERA across 31 1/3 innings, striking out 17 batters while issuing 14 walks.

He spent the entirety of the 2025 campaign in the minor leagues within the Seattle Mariners organization, but remains a seasoned arm capable of contributing if needed.

Depth remains key for Toronto Blue Jays’ title ambitions

While Fleming may not be guaranteed a spot on Toronto’s Opening Day roster, his addition reflects the Blue Jays’ broader strategy: stockpile reliable depth as insurance for a long and demanding season.

Left-handed bullpen options often prove crucial in postseason races, and Fleming gives Toronto flexibility should injuries or performance issues arise.

With spring training approaching, Toronto Blue Jays continue to fine-tune a roster built to chase unfinished business in 2026.
