The potential three-time MVP is a fan favourite and his jersey is the most popular in the sport

The Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is among the most popular players in Major League Baseball (MLB). All credit goes to his two-way ability and domination at the plate. The potential three-time MVP is a fan favourite and his jersey is the most popular in the sport.

Shohei Ohtani's jersey is the highest-selling jersey

According to MLB, Ohtani's jersey is the highest-selling jersey in the league. The Japanese International maintains his record and retains his crown as he had the most popular jersey and led the sales in 2023. It may take some time for other players to dethrone Ohtani.

The players who are behind Ohtani in terms of jersey sales are second-placed Bryce Harper, third-placed Aaron Judge, fourth-placed Mookie Betts and fifth-placed Francisco Lindor.

Ohtani's merchandise is also the most popular in the league and that's the reason he leads the sales in terms of jerseys. The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted an Ohtani bobblehead giveaway with fans and they waited for hours to get their hands on the collectables.

Shohei Ohtani's 50-50 season is another reason behind his jersey sales rise

One of the main reasons why Shohei Ohtani led the jersey sales in 2024 was he became the first player in MLB history to breach the 50-50 landmark. Despite recovering from his elbow injury, he was unstoppable at the plate. He has 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases to his name.

Not only did he reach the historic landmark but he is also eyeing to win his third MVP award. If he can win the award, he will become the first designated hitter to win an MVP award. Given what Ohtani has achieved this year, it is easy to think why he is leading the jersey sales.

Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge are MVP frontrunners

Since the past few years, both Ohtani and Judge have fought for the American League MVP award. Despite being the best two players in the league, in the last three years, Ohtani has won the prize twice and Judge only managed to win it once in 2022.

Since Ohtani's switch from Los Angeles Angels to LA Dodgers, doors have opened for both players to win the MVP award. They are currently the favourites to win the award in their respective leagues.
