Phoenix Suns could be welcoming back a key starter just in time for their rematch against the Los Angeles Clippers, as forward Dillon Brooks inches closer to returning from injury. According to Sports Illustrated, the Suns have upgraded Brooks to questionable after he missed six consecutive games due to a lingering core muscle strain — a development that could significantly bolster their rotation heading into Saturday’s matchup.
Dillon Brooks nearing return after six-game absence
Brooks suffered the injury last month against the Denver Nuggets, initially diagnosed as right groin soreness. However, the discomfort persisted longer than expected, keeping him sidelined for over two weeks. Suns head coach Jordan Ott revealed that Brooks’ return depends primarily on his ability to manage pain.
Before the setback, Brooks was off to one of the most productive starts of his career, averaging 19.3 points per game, a personal best through his first three outings with Phoenix. His aggressive scoring, defensive intensity, and leadership presence were key to the Suns’ early-season competitiveness. Ott’s staff now hopes his return can provide the extra edge needed to regain consistency after a shaky 4-5 start.
Jalen Green’s impact and the Phoenix Suns’ offensive revival
Phoenix’s offense already received a spark with the recent debut of Jalen Green, who missed the preseason and the first eight regular-season games due to a right hamstring strain. In his first appearance for the Phoenix Suns, Green looked rejuvenated, posting 29 points and going 6-of-13 from beyond the arc in a commanding 115-102 win over the Clippers on November 6.
Praising Green’s performance, Ott noted the significance of his return, stating,
“Ups and downs of coming back from an injury, wanting to play with a new group, in a new city, and then to be that in rhythm. Yeah, that’s unique.”
Green’s explosive debut not only fueled a much-needed win but also reshaped the Phoenix Suns’ offensive identity. His perimeter shooting and pace have given Phoenix a dynamic look, especially when paired with sharpshooters Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale, both of whom rank among league leaders with 32 made three-pointers each.
Reunion of familiar faces
If Brooks returns on Saturday, he’ll reunite with Jalen Green, a familiar face from their days with the Houston Rockets before both were acquired in the Kevin Durant trade earlier this year. Their prior chemistry could prove invaluable as Ott continues to fine-tune his lineups.
Before his injury, Brooks had emerged as the team’s No. 2 scoring option behind Devin Booker, averaging 19.7 shot attempts, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game. With Green now active, Brooks could thrive as a floor spacer, benefiting from increased ball movement and more open looks.
