The tournament itself is scheduled to run from 27 August to 12 September 2027 and will be the first FIBA Basketball World Cup held in the Middle East and North Africa region. All matches will take place in and around Doha, with four venues located within roughly 30 minutes of each other, allowing fans to attend multiple games in a single day.

A total of 32 national teams will compete for the Naismith Trophy, with the event also serving as a pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Organisers have highlighted the compact venue layout as a key advantage for both players and spectators.

2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar Format

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 will feature 32 teams competing from 27 August to 12 September in Qatar. In the first round, the teams are divided into eight groups of four, with each side playing the other three in a round-robin format.

The top two from each group advance while the bottom two contest classification matches for places 17 to 32. The 16 advancing teams then form four new groups of four in the second round, carrying over results against the other qualifier from their original group and playing two additional matches, with the top two from each progressing to the knockout stage.

The final phase consists of quarter-finals, semi-finals, a third-place play-off and the final, while teams eliminated in the quarter-finals play classification games for fifth to eighth place.
