The FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball) 3x3 Europe Cup 2024, held from August 22 to 25 in the vibrant and serene city of Vienna, has achieved remarkable milestones in digital engagement and viewership, highlighting the tournament's growing popularity. This ninth edition of the event showcased elite teams from across Europe, with both men's and women's competitions drawing viewership and engagement among fans.
Digital record-breaking tournament
In terms of digital impact, FIBA 3x3's online platforms gained over 30 million social media impressions and more than 1.1 million digital engagements. The tournament's videos on YouTube alone attracted 524,000 views, marking a substantial increase of 189% compared to 2023 and 102% compared to 2022. Overall, the competition generated an impressive total of over 23.5 million views, reflecting its expanding reach and influence in the sports community. Furthermore, there was a notable surge in new subscribers, with a 198% increase in 2024 compared to the previous year, indicating a growing fan base eager for 3x3 basketball content.

Geographic gains
Geographically, the tournament's audience was widespread. Serbia continued to lead as the country with the highest viewership, but Germany, the United States, Austria, and the United Kingdom made significant gains, entering the top ten for the first time. This shift is a testimony to the increasing global appeal of 3x3 basketball and its potential for further expansion. The competition itself was fierce and neck-to-neck, with Austria claiming victory in the men's category against Serbia, winning 18-17 in a thrilling final. This marked Austria's first Europe Cup title, celebrated in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. In the women's division, Spain triumphed over France with a 19-11 win, securing their second Europe Cup gold. The event also featured the inaugural IWBF European Championship, promoting inclusivity and showcasing wheelchair basketball alongside the main tournament.
