Lakers team react to LeBron James ‘Second Decision’ & retirement speculations

James is currently recovering and has not played in the ongoing pre-season where the Lakers are down 2-0

LeBron James had stunned the basketball community after his cryptic “Second Decision" post. Following that, speculation spread online that the Los Angeles Lakers forward might announce his retirement; however, it turned out to be an advertisement instead. Meanwhile, the Lakers players, along with the coach, JJ Redick, have reacted to this whole saga.

When asked about the situation during a media appearance, Lakers coach Redick took a frenzy jab at the fans who predicted LeBron James’ retirement. He said: 

“You guys are idiots.” 

The 41-year-old further added that everyone knew that it was an advertisement and “nobody was freaking out.”

Meanwhile, the 17-time NBA Champions’ forward Rui Hachimura and guard Austin Reaves also had something to say about this whole situation. The Japanese basketball player said:

“He loves to do that type of stuff.” 

While the 27-year-old power forward is aware of LeBron’s tactics, Reaves, on the other hand, said: 

“I got a couple calls, like, ‘What is this?’”

James is currently recovering and has not played in the ongoing pre-season where the Lakers are down 2-0. The  40-year-old is focused on the upcoming season as the team doesn't want to take any chances while the regular season remains a priority. The player will be entering his 23rd NBA season in 2025-26, which will be the longest ever by a player in the history of the league.
