The Minnesota Timberwolves will be taking on Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals on Thursday, May 8 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. All eyes would be on Rob Dillingham, whether he starts against the Warriors or not.
Will Rob Dillingham play against Golden State Warriors?
The 20-year-old point guard is listed on the team's injury report as he will be missing Game 2 against the Golden State Warriors. Dillingham is the only player listed on the team's injury report for Minnesota Timberwolves. He is suffering from a right ankle sprain.
Dillingham suffered the same injury back in December and due to which he had missed three games. According to results from the MRI, the Timberwolves confirmed that he sustained a Grade 2 right lateral ankle sprain.
An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) taken at Mayo Clinic by Dr. Kelechi Okoroha on Dillingham confirmed a Grade 2 right lateral ankle sprain. His return to play timeline is 1-2 weeks and he will be re-evaluated in one week. Further updates of his progress will be provided when available, the statement read.
He returned to action on January 17 against the New York Knicks as he notched up 9 points and 3 assists. He followed that performance with strongest stretch of his rookie season as he averaged 9.8 points and 3.0 assists over the course of final seven games of January.
As the Timberwolves began their playoff push towards the final weeks of the regular season, Dillingham saw a dip in his playing time. Ultimately, he featured in 49 regular season games as he averaged 4.5 points, 1.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.4 steals per game.
Rob Dillingham had missed the first round series against the Los Angeles Lakers and will be sidelined for the Western Conference semifinals as well. Even if he recovers in time, he will not play for the remainder of the postseason.
His absence won't have much effect on the team as they have depth in the guard position. Mike Conley and Donte DiVincenzo are expected to lead the charge at the point guard spot.
