Lakers Aiming to Reunite Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving were the star performers of the Mavericks, and the duo took the franchise to the NBA finals in the 2023-24 season and almost won the side the elusive trophy. The partnership was broken following Luka Doncic's trade to the Lakers. However, as per a report Rob Pelinka aims to unite Doncic and Irving at LA Lakers.

Irving, who is an 8-time All-Star and an NBA champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers, shared a special bond with Doncic during the Mavericks stint. Their partnership was short-lived but was lethal in every aspect.

"(Kyrie) Irving and Doncic were basically two peas in a pod, with Irving outright stating on numerous occasions how dominant of a player Doncic was as well as how good of a friend he was," wrote Daniel Alameda of The Wrightway Sports Network. "He often talked about their families being close, spending time off the court enjoying each other's presence, and just a pure enjoyment on both of their faces when they are on the court."

The Los Angeles Lakers, who brought in Luka Doncic in February, are focused on building a title-winning unit around the Slovenian. Therefore, bringing in Kyrie Irving, who has had a strong tuning with LeBron James, could immensely improve the prospects of the LA Lakers.

"All in all, Dallas made a move to try winning the NBA Finals, but there is a serious connection between Irving being 'out-of-the-loop' in Dallas to where he joins two of his former teammates in Los Angeles," Alameda added.
