The Houston Rockets have provided unfortunate news that fans wouldn't want to hear. The franchise is already trailing 1-3 against the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs and would need a full squad; however, they have to play without their superstar player.

Rockets provide unfortunate Kevin Durant update for Game 5 vs Lakers

Kevin Durant will miss Game 5 of the team's first-round playoff series against the Lakers on Wednesday night due to a sprained left ankle and bone bruise, the team announced. The former Brooklyn Nets player has already sat out the past two games with the injury, which has caused stiffness, swelling, and limited mobility.

The bone bruise component is particularly problematic, typically requiring two to three weeks of recovery in a regular-season context. He has appeared in just one game of the series so far, Game 2, where he posted 23 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Coach Ime Udoka had previously described Durant's status as day-to-day and noted treatment progress, but the veteran forward did not participate in practice and was not cleared to play.

The Rockets enter Game 5 trailing the Lakers 3-1 in the series and must win on the road at Crypto.com Arena to extend their season. Houston managed a Game 4 victory without Durant, but his absence has forced the younger roster to shoulder a heavier offensive load.

Durant's availability for any potential Game 6 remains uncertain and would depend on further healing from the ankle issue. The injury adds another chapter to a challenging postseason for the Rockets, who acquired Durant in hopes of bolstering their playoff push.
