After winning their second T20 World Cup title, Rohit Sharma-led India has been stuck in Barbados. Hurricane Beryl had a major effect on the Caribbean islands on Monday morning (local time) but it was not destructive in Barbados. Team India will not be dependent on commercial airlines when the Barbados airport resumes services on Tuesday (July 3). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged a chartered plane to take the players home.
Team India will board the chartered flight on Tuesday evening (early Wednesday morning as per IST). They will reach Indira Gandhi International airport, Delhi, on Wednesday evening (July 4). The chartered flight will also include players and coaching staff’s families along with BCCI officials. The chartered flight will arrive in Barbados from America. Meanwhile, the team is staying in the hotel which is one kilometre away from the sea.
The Indian team is likely to touch down in Delhi around 8 PM on July 4. The team is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 5 for felicitation ceremony. It is yet to be revealed when and where the victory parade of the team with the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy be.
BCCI secretary Shah on July 1 had also ensured that a special chartered flight will be arranged for the team.
"Like you people, we are also stuck here. First, we need to see how to get the players and everyone out of here safely, and then we will think about the felicitation upon arrival in India," he said.
Hurricane Beryl intensifies
Beryl, the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season caused destruction in Granada, Tobago and ST Lucia. The hurricane was put in Category 4 as wind speeds reached 130 miles per hour.
National Hurricane Centre's forecasters Lary Kelly and John Cangialosi issued a warning in their advistory describing it as 'extremely dangerous'.
“This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Take action now to protect your life!,” the center was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.
