Royal Challengers Bengaluru will go one-on-one against Chennai Super Kings in match 68 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, on May 1 (Saturday). However, there is a rain threat looming all over the big clash that will decide the fourth team in this season's playoff but the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium has a way to fight it.
Bengaluru weather forecast predicts constant rain
As per a report from weather.com, there will be precipitation up to 80 percent along with thunderstorms in Bengaluru, on Saturday and it will only increase more between 5 pm to 11 pm. This can even cause a potential washout. There is also a chance of a reduced-overs match.
M.Chinnaswamy Stadium's drainage system
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has one of the best drainage systems in the world. This allows them to convert a wet outfield into a playable one in a matter of minutes. The groundstaff at the Stadium even demonstrated their remarkable system. This is one of the few grounds in India with a subsurface aeration system, that allows the game to begin within 30 minutes of rain stopping.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's qualification scenario if rain plays spoilsport
RCB would have their fingers crossed and will be praying to the weather gods that rain doesn't spoil the party for them as this is their final opportunity to secure the spot in the top four. They need to beat CSK by 18 runs or chase their target in 18.1 overs if they score 200 runs.
However, if the match gets washed out both teams will have to share a point and that will eliminate RCB from playoff race. However, this will be a big advantage for CSK as they will end up with 15 points and straight away make it to the next stage.
