India World Cup winner Suresh Raina reckoned that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should have played the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024 as they are mature enough and know how they need to practice before the upcoming matches. Both Rohit and Kohli made a lot of headlines when their names were missing from the Duleep Trophy squad.
Raina who will currently feature in the upcoming Legends League Cricket Exclusively told Sports Tak that it is important to spend some time with families. Rohit and Kohli are currently spending time with their families and they will most likely feature in the upcoming two-Test match series against Bangladesh scheduled to start from September 19. The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India is yet to announce the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
This will be followed by a three-match test series against New Zealand from October 16 to November 5. These two series' will pave India's preparation for the Border Gavaskar Trophy later this year.
Both Rohit and Virat, last featured in the ODI series against Sri Lanka where the Men in Blue lost the series 2-0.
"They should have played. We have not played any red-ball cricket after the IPL. If you are going for a big series, you need to play red-ball cricket. I think they are all mature enough and they know how they need to practice once they regroup. Sometimes family time is very important," Raina said while speaking on Sports Tak.
Apart from Rohit and Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah is another big name who was missing from the Duleep Trophy squad. The speedster last featured in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa at Kennington Oval in Barbados.
