Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan revealed how people in Pakistan treated the team after they defeated India in the 2021 T20 World Cup which was played in UAE. Rizwan said that he stopped going for shopping because people refused to take money from him.
Rizwan played a memorable unbeaten knock of 79 runs against India at Dubai International Stadium to guide his team to a historic win against India.
“For me, it was all a first, whether it be playing in a World Cup or in such a big match. So I was feeling quite normal, I didn’t think this was any different from any other match. But when we won, that is when I realised what we achieved. In Pakistan, say I go for shopping somewhere, people won’t take money,” Mohammad Rizwan said during an event in the USA, as per NDTV.
Pakistan clinched a historic 10-wicket win against India in 2021 and this was the only win Men in Green have registered a victory against the arch-rivals in World Cups.
“Then I stopped going out for shopping because they just weren’t taking money from us, they were all commending us for beating India. Everyone I met was commending us for the win. Once when I went to someone’s room they had the match playing on television and said that they watch it everyday,”
India will now face Pakistan for the 19th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The arch-rivals will lock horns at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. This will be the second tournament outing for both teams.
India vs Pakistan's last outing
India last faced Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 which was played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts India defeated the Men in Green by seven wickets.
