South Africa’s left-arm chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi broke down in tears after the team’s seven-run loss to India in T20 World Cup 2024 final at Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. A dejected Shamsi was consoled by his wife Khadija Shariff and his son on the ground while Indian players celebrated their second T20 World Cup title. Shamsi wrote an emotional post on his Instagram account a day after South Africa missed out on winning their maiden World Cup trophy.
“Whether you play badly and lose or play very well and lose, in my books it all counts for nothing and still hurts like hell,” wrote Shamsi.
“We gave our all as a team and fought with everything we had!”
Shamsi thanked his wife for being there for him in tough times as he further wrote, “Thank you for always being there to lift me up when times are rough.”
The 34-year-old remained wicketless in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. He conceded 26 runs from three overs he bowled as India posted 176/7, the highest score in a T20 World Cup final.

However, Shamsi had a good T20 World Cup as he bagged 11 wickets from five games including a crucial four-wicket haul against Nepal in a low-scoring encounter. Shamsi bagged three wickets against West Indies. He played a big role in Afghanistan's collapse in the semifinal as well. The only match where he took a beating was against co-hosts USA when he conceded 50 runs.
Uthappa predicted Shamsi won’t be effective against India
Before the T20 World Cup 2024 final, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa had said that Shamsi playing in the clash will be an advantage for Rohit Sharma’s side.
"As far as I am concerned, if Shamsi is playing, I will be damn happy, especially in Barbados. And if Baartman is playing, I will be like, we have to be a little wary. Who would I prefer between these two? Definitely, Shamsi. I know that he will give runs. Even if he takes a wicket, I don't care. If he takes 40-45-50 runs, I am done. Because in India's current batting approach, even if he takes a wicket, it's not a big deal," Uthappa said on Ravichandran Ashwin's recently posted Youtube video 'Judgement Day'.
