Virat Kohli eyes to break Mahela Jayawardene's historic record.

He needs to 9 more boundaries to break this record.

Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli is eyeing to break Mahela Jayawardene's massive record and create history by becoming the batter with the most boundaries in the history of T20 World Cups. The former Indian captain is currently in need of 9 boundaries to create this record and will have this opportunity in the Indian cricket team's opening match against Ireland which will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, on June 5 (Wednesday).

Virat Kohli to break Mahela Jayawardene's record

Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene currently holds the record for most fours in the history of T20 World Cups. He has smashed 111 fours in 31 matches. Virat Kohli needs 9 boundaries to surpass Jayawardene. He currently has 103 fours in 27 matches.

Even if he is unable to break this record in the match against Ireland. He would most likely break this record in this edition of the marquee event. Kohli is also the leading run-scorer in the history of the mega tournament and is one of the main players in the Men in Blue's campaign to end their ICC trophy drought.

The Indian team is the inaugural champions of the mega tournament and has not won any ICC trophy since 2013. They are one of the favorites to reach the semifinals. However, this could be potentially the last outing for Virat Kohli and Rohit in the shortest format of the game and they would try to end it by winning the trophy. This is also their last assignment under Rahul Dravid's tenure. They had a lot of great moments under his coaching but have not won the prestigious silverware. The Men in Blue would like to give him a perfect farewell by winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
