Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have appointed legendary South African all-rounder Lance Klusener as an assistant coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
“Klusener joins the team as an assistant coach and will work closely with head coach Justin Langer during the upcoming IPL season,” LSG said in a statement on March 1.
Klusener’s coaching stints
Before joining LSG, Klusener was associated with Durban Super Giants led by Keshav Maharaj which reached the final of SA20 2024. They lost to Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
Klusener has also served as Afghanistan men's cricket team's head coach. He has been a part of the coaching staff of Zimbabwe and South Africa's national teams as well. Also, in the 2011 edition of the IPL, he was associated with Mumbai Indians (MI) as their batting coach.
Klusener’s international career
Klusener has represented South Africa in 49 Tests and 171 ODIs. He has scored 3,576 runs from 137 ODI innings at an average of 41.10 including two centuries and 19 half-centuries. In the Test format, he scored 1,906 runs from 69 innings at an average of 32.86 including four centuries and eight wickets. He has 80 wickets in Tests and 192 in ODIs. In the ODI format, he has as many as six five-wicket hauls.
LSG’s other big announcement
Earlier this week, LSG appointed Caribbean wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran as their vice-captain for the season ahead of Krunal Pandya who led the team in the previous season after skipper KL Rahul was ruled out due to injury.
LSG will start their IPL 2024 campaign on March 24 in Jaipur against Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals. Their first home game is against Punjab Kings (PBKS). They will go up against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their third clash in Bengaluru.
