Indian speedster Mohammed Shami opened up on his battles with Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli during India's net sessions. Shami is currently on the road to recovery and will most likely make a comeback in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The India veteran will most likely be part of India's squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025.
Shami said there is a challenge between Kohli and him during the net sessions but Rohit doesn't like facing him in the net sessions.
Speaking to Shubhankar Sharma on his YouTube channel, Shami said, “Virat se to mera hamesha se rehta hai ki hum ek dusre ko challenge dete hain (with Virat, it’s always like we challenge each other). He likes to hit good shots, and I like to get him out. The bonding and the friendship reflects in that. It also helps you focus and put in the effort as you simulate (fielding positions), for example, two (imaginary) slips in place, two gully fielders. (So, I challenge Virat) to come at me and score runs. We enjoy such things,” said Shami.
“Rohit to pehle he kehta hai,’mai isko khelna pasand nahi karta’. Woh to pehle hi mana kar deta hai (Rohit says I don’t like to face him; he refuses to bat against me),” he added.
Shami was the standout performer in the ODI World Cup 2023 hosted by India where he picked up 24 wickets in his seven outings. The star pacer came into the playing XI after Hardik Pandya got injured in the fourth match at the marquee event. He finished the tournament as the highest wicket-taker.
