Dhoni shone brightly in his first outing of the new season.

MS Dhoni returned to professional cricket after around one year. One would have expected Dhoni to be a little rusty but the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was at his agile best. Even at the age of 42 and after undergoing knee surgery last year, Dhoni looked in supreme fitness during CSK's Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on March 22 (Friday).

Be it diving behind the stumps to stop the ball from racing toward the boundary or showing game awareness to inflict a run-out on the last ball of RCB's innings, Dhoni shone brightly in his first outing of the new season.

"He certainly does. His knee looks brand new at the moment," Robin Uthappa told JioCinema on Friday.

"The fact that he is jogging and striding well just goes to show he has done the work behind the scenes. Just like Roger Federer. Nobody knows the kind of work ethic he has got, but he turns up in tournaments and looks really good. MS is doing that.

"He is looking good, looking healthy and strong from the looks of it, seems to be batting well. Like I said in the past, CSK will play MS Dhoni on a wheelchair. But, I think he has begun well. He will be happy about it. He has been playing tennis, and paddle tennis to keep himself it. He looks as good as gold at the moment," the former India batter added.

Dhoni didn't get a chance to bat

While the Super Kings began their IPL 2024 campaign with an emphatic six-wicket win against the RCB, the fans inside the Chepauk were not completely satisfied and happy. The reason was simple - they didn't get a chance to watch their superstar Dhoni bat.

Having said that, there will be plenty of opportunities in the upcoming matches for Dhoni to take centerstage with the bat and enthrall his supporters with vintage performances.
