Rajasthan Royals (RR) have announced South Africa's star Keshav Maharaj as Prasidh Krishna's replacement for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. RR made this announcement amidst their IPL 2024's clash against Delhi Capitals on March 28. Former IPL champions RR have apparently bolstered their bowling attack with the experience of South African ace spinner Keshav Maharaj. Notably, Prasidh Krishna has been sidelined due to a recent left proximal quadriceps tendon surgery. Maharaj is a seasoned campaigner, having featured in all three formats for South Africa. He boasts an impressive international record with 237 wickets across 27 T20Is, 44 ODIs, and 50 Tests. His experience extends beyond the international cricket, with 159 T20 matches under his belt where he's claimed 130 wickets. Moreover, he has also proved his batting prowess down the order and will certainly add depth to RR's batting line-up. RR acquired Maharaj at a steal, securing him for his base price of Rs 50 lakh.
"Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) named Allah Ghazanfar as a replacement for the injured Mujeeb Ur Rahman while Rajasthan Royals (RR) added Keshav Maharaj to the squad in place of Prasidh Krishna for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024," IPL's statement read.
Rajasthan Royals' updated squad
Sanju Samson (c & wk), Jos Buttler (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravichandran Ashwin, Sandeep Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal, Riyan Parag, Navdeep Saini, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Trent Boult, Donovan Ferreira, Kuldeep Sen, Kunal Rathore, Avesh Khan, Rovman Powell, Shubham Dubey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Abid Mushtaq, Nandre Burger, Keshav Maharaj.
In preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in June, Keshav Maharaj had initially joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) training camp before the IPL season began. This wasn't just a guest appearance - Maharaj was there to train alongside the LSG players throughout the IPL. Interestingly, he's not new to franchise cricket leadership, having captained the Durban's Super Giants, the sister franchise of LSG, in the South African T20 league, SA20.
