Highlights:

Virat Kohli scored 92 runs from 47 balls.

RCB beat PBKS by 60 runs in Dharamsala.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Virat Kohli is always animated on the field. Kohli has been accused of celebrating wickets more than the bowler himself. The clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was no different as Kohli mocked South African batter Rilee Rossouw’s ‘bazooka’ celebration after Karn Sharma ended his fiery knock in Dharamsala.

Rossouw was on song in the high-scoring encounter. He reached his half-century with a six and it was followed by a ‘bazooka’ celebration which he has done in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Quetta Gladiators.

Blow to throat leads to wicket

In the ninth over, he took on Karn and hit him for a four and a six. PBKS were in the run chase as they had crossed the 100-run mark in the ninth over. Rossouw in an attempt to find another boundary played a reverse sweep. However, the ball deflected off his bat to the forearm and hit him on the throat. The southpaw immediately called for the physio. He got the medical attention for a few minutes before play resumed.

On the very first delivery after the break, Rossouw decided to attack the leg-spinner again. However, he could not get the distance this time. He was caught at long-on by Will Jacks. While the Englishman celebrated with Karn, Kohli who was fielding in the deep imitated Rossouw’s celebration as the latter was walking off the field.

His 27-ball 61 was laced with nine fours and three sixes. PBKS were 107/3 when he got out. After his wicket, only Shashank Singh managed to make some impact as PBKS suffered a batting collapse. They lost seven wickets from 56 runs and were bowled out for 181 with three overs left in the innings. PBKS could not get anywhere near the target of 242 and lost the match by 60 runs.

Big loss for PBKS

With a massive loss, PBKS have been knocked out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoff race. Their net run rate (NRR) took a massive hit too after facing the eighth defeat from 12 games. They are placed ninth on the points table. They joined Mumbai Indians (MI) who were the first to get eliminated from playoff race.
