India and South Africa will take on in an ICC final for the first time.

India have made it to the T20 World Cup final for the third time. The Rohit Sharma-led India will look to end their ICC trophy drought whereas Aiden Markram’s South Africa have made it to the final of the marquee event for the first time and would like to win their maiden World Cup trophy. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on the eve of the final match at Kensington Oval, Barbados announced the match officials for the mega clash.

Christopher Gaffaney and Richard Illingwoth will be on-field umpires and Richard Kettleborough will be the TV umpire/third umpire. Rodney Tucker will be the fourth umpire whereas legendary West Indies cricketer Richie Richardson will be the match referee. 
 

Changes from semifinal clash

Illingworth has replaced Tucker as the second on-field umpire. Joel Wilson was the third umpire and Paul Reiffel was picked as fourth umpire for the second semifinal between India and England. Also, the match referee was former New Zealand cricketer Jeffrey Crowe.
 

India vs South Africa head-to-head in T20 World Cups

India and South Africa have gone up against each other in T20 World Cups six times. India have won four and lost two games on this stage against the Proteas.

What happened when India and South Africa last played in T20 World Cup?

The last time two giants locked horns was in 2022 T20 World Cup. India suffered a batting collapse in Perth. Lungi Ngidi caused a top-order collapse and bagged four wickets. Wayne Parnell picked three wickets as well to restrict India's score to 133/9. Only Suryakumar Yadav stood out of the lot with a 40-ball 68 featuring six fours and three sixes.

Arshdeep Singh struck twice with the new ball in his first over. South Africa suffered a top-order collapse too. However, Markram and David Miller's half-centuries helped South Africa win the game by five wickets with a couple of balls to spare.
