This is the highest target set by a team in Test cricket history (five-day games). The previous best record for highest target set by a team belonged to New Zealand. He became the second Bangladesh batter to score a century in both innings of a Test. Bangladesh create history by setting highest target in five-day Tests, Afghanistan fear losing Test by record margin

Bangladesh's star batter Najmul Hossain Shanto scripted history after cracking twin centuries in the ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Shere Bangla stadium in Mirpur on Friday (June 16). Following brilliant ton in the first innings, Shanto cracked a robust 124 off 151 in Bangladesh's fourth innings to help his team surge towards a big target. With the exceptional back-to-back century Shanto became just the second Bangladeshi batter to belt tons in both the innings of a Test match. The 24-year-old whacked 15 fours in his impressive knock.&nbsp;&nbsp;Notably, Mominul Haq clobbered 176 and 105 runs in both the Bangladesh's innings against Sri Lanka in Chittagong back in 2018. In another feat, Shanto also became the first cricketer to wallop twin centuries one Test against Afghanistan. Overall Nazmul Hossain Shanto became the 91st cricketer to do so in Tests.&nbsp;Shanto's feat doesn't stop here as he also found his place in an elite list of active players who have struck twin centuries in a Test match. Bangladesh's interim ODI skipper faced a test before the second ODI against Afghanistan. Appearing before the media within half an hour of him getting appointed captain officially for the remainder of ODI series against Afghanistan, Das faced a few tough questions. &nbsp;Das has not been named as the permanent ODI skipper after Tamim Iqbal's shock retirement form international cricket. In the press conference, Das made it clear that he would not entertain questions regarding Iqbal's retirement and he would rather talk about the second ODI against the Afghan side. &nbsp;"Bhai(brother) I came here to talk about tomorrow. If you ask questions regarding Tamim here, then the board president or the coach is more appropriate than me and I think I should leave," Litton told reporters at one point of the press conference which indicated that they have gotten over the shock and are now trying to look forward without their most successful batter across formats. &nbsp;"I came to know about it (his retirement) at 1 in the afternoon. Certainly I have played with him for a long time and no one realized that he would take such a decision but the decision is made by the elder brother and all the member of the team respects his decision and I feel everyone should do the same," he said. &nbsp;"It is difficult to say whether we will miss him because today I am here tomorrow I might not be here due to injury and no one will miss me because newcomers will come into the side and this is the process. If he was around it could or could not be but as he is not available anymore I don't think there is no need to talk with me about the topic anymore. I don't think there is any point looking at something that is gone rather we need to focus on what we can do in future and bring good for the country and we need to try and do that," he further added. &nbsp;Das denied that he was feeling the heat due to captaincy role. The 28-year-old emphasised on the need of threat posed by Afghan spinners.&nbsp; &nbsp;"We know their major strength is spin and we need to make sure we don't lose too many wickets because in that case we will be in the game," he said. &nbsp;"In the last game the first 10 overs were challenging but we did well and I don't think we have any complain regarding it. The thing that we miss is that our batsmen make mistakes when it comes to execution. We did not got out against good balls. The Bangladesh vs Afghanistan 1st T20I turned out to be a nerve-wracking encounter. Afghan pacer Karim Janat turned the game on its head in the last over but it was not enough to stop Bangladesh from registering a narrow two-wicket win with one ball to spare in the first T20I at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on July 14. &nbsp;Bangladesh lost three wickets in first seven overs and failed to take advantage of fielding restrictions in the run chase. Shkaib Al Hasan got off to a good start but could not convert it into a big score. At 64/4, Bangladesh needed a partnership as the required run rate reached nine runs per over. The partnership between Towhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain stabilised the run chase. In the 18th over, Rashid Khan broke the partnership with the wicket of Shamim Hossain who scored 33 runs from 25 balls.&nbsp; &nbsp;The wicket got Afghan players tails up. In the final over, they needed six runs to win. Mehidy Hasan Miraz hit a boundary first ball to release the pressure. Then Miraz got out after playing it straight to Mohammad Nabi. Taskin Ahmed slashed but got a thin edge which carried to Rahmanullah Gurbaz's gloves. Nasum Ahmed went for the big shot but the top-edge went to third man fielder's hands. On the last two balls, Bangladesh needed two runs. Shoriful Islam held on to his nerves and played a cut shot through point beating sweeper cover to take his team home with a boundary. Hridoy remained unbeaten for 47 off 32 balls including three fours and two sixes. &nbsp;Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to field first. Afghanistan lost three wickets in five overs. Experienced campaigner Mohammad Nabi soaked up the pressure despite wickets falling from the other end. Nabi scored a half-century and had support from Azmatullah Omarzai who contributed with an 18-ball 33 cameo. Nabi remained unbeaten for 54 off 40 balls to take Afghanistan to a fighting total of 154/7. His knock included six fours and one six. &nbsp;“We had the belief, all our tailenders can bat. It was Shoriful's turn today but Miraz could have finished it. I have given my best. I have tried my best. I am retiring from international cricket from this moment. Yesterday against Afghanistan was my last international game. It was not a sudden decision. I was thinking about the different reasons. I don't want to mention here. I have spoken to my family members about it. I thought this is the right time for me to retire from international cricket. &nbsp;"I need to thank a few people, which they deserve. (Pauses, and takes a deep breath). I have always said that I played cricket (long pause, deep breath) to fulfil my father's dream. So I am not sure how much I have made him proud throughout these 16 years of my international career. &nbsp;"There are a lot of other people that I need to thank. My youngest chacha (uncle), his name is Akbar Khan. I held his hands to go to my first cricket tournament. I thank him and his family. I thank Tapan da, a coach in MA Aziz Stadium, (long pause, sobbing), who was my coach in my childhood. I thank all the players I played with from the U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19s, A team, Premier League, NCL and national team. Especially my national-team colleagues. The cricket board gave me the opportunity to represent the country for so long. I have captained Bangladesh too. I thank them as well. &nbsp;"I don't have much to say. Tamim Iqbal has taken a U-turn a day after retiring from international cricket in an emotional press conference that stunned cricket fans. Iqbal came out of retirement after a meeting with the Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.&nbsp;"Today afternoon, the Prime Minister invited me to her house. She admonished me and asked me to play again, so I have decided to come out of retirement at this moment," Tamim told reporters outside the PM's residence.&nbsp;&nbsp;"I can say no to everyone but it was impossible for me to say no to someone of the PM's authority. Papon (Nazmul Hasan) bhai, Mashrafe (Mortaza) bhai were big, big factors too. Mashrafe bhai called me here and Papon bhai was also here. Prime Minister also gave me one and a half months break for my treatment and other things. In the second session of the day’s play, Afghanistan bowlers were struggling to break the partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudul Hasan Joy.&nbsp; &nbsp;In the 35th over of the innings, Joy went on the back foot and guided the ball behind point for a couple of runs. Then, overthrow gifted him a couple more runs as even two fielders backing up could not catch hold of the ball. In total, five runs were scored off the last ball of Zahir’s over.&nbsp; &nbsp;“This is a comedy of errors. This is unbelievable. That's throwing the ball all over the place. Noone's backing up,” the commentator said.&nbsp; &nbsp;Meanwhile, Joy got to his half-century from 102 deliveries. Afghanistan's new bowling sensation Nijat Masood continues to create buzz with his bowling prowess in the one-off Test against Bangladesh on Thursday (June 15). The 24-year-old Nijat became just the second Afghan bowler to snare a fifer on Test debut as he notched a brilliant bowling figure of 5/79 in the first innings against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Apparently, he has also become the youngest Afghanistani bowler to step on the milestone of bagging a fifer on Test debut.&nbsp;Notably, 31-year-old spinner Amir Hamza was the first Afghani bowler to record a feat of taking five-wicket haul on Test debut. Hamza stepped on the the sensational milestone in the second innings against West Indies at Lucknow in November 2019.&nbsp;Earlier on Wednesday, Nijat started off his debut on a historic note as he became only the eighth bowler in the history of Test cricket to snare a wicket on his first ball. Nijat got rid off Bangladesh's opener Zakir Hasan in the first ball of the second over on Wednesday. They beat their opponents by a massive 546 runs after Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam shared seven wickets between themselves to restrict the team to a measly 115 runs in the second innings.This loss is the third-biggest for a Test team in terms of runs. The last time a team lost by more than 500 runs was way back in 1934 when Australia beat England by 562 runs. This is also the biggest victory for an Asian team in terms of runs, a major achievement for Bangladesh.The Bengal Tigers declared at 425/4 on Day 3, setting a daunting target of 662 for Afghanistan. Ibrahim Zadran fell on the first ball of the final innings of the Test, and Abdul Malik went in the second over, off Shoriful and Taskin's bowling respectively. Rahmat Shah came into the game with Afghanistan in a precarious situation and finished as the player with the most runs for Afghanistan in the second innings.This was despite the injury to skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi. Since then, it was a complete landslide. Afghanistan were 45/2 at the end of Day 3 but then lost eight wickets for 70 runs, effectively ending any chances of a victory.Earlier on Day 3, Najmul Hossain Shanto got to his second Test century of the match. He became just the second Bangladesh batter to score a century in both innings of a Test. His unbeaten 143-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Litton Das helped Bangladesh post 425/4 from 80 overs before declaring.
