Story Highlights:

MSK Prasad says Yashasvi Jaiswal deserved a place in the India A squad for the Sri Lanka tri-series.

Jaiswal scored 370 runs for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 at a strike rate of 159.48.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Test and ODI squad for the upcoming Afghanistan series. A lot of changes took place in both of the squads, as a lot of fresh faces secured their places. In a surprising series of events, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was not picked in the ODI squad despite scoring a century in his last outing against South Africa.

Former Chairman of selectors slams Yashasvi Jaiswal's omission

Reacting on the same, former India chairman of selectors MSK Prasad said that Jaiswal should have been selected in India A squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka at least. MSK Prasad understands that having Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill there will be no gametime for Jaiswal, but the selectors should have considered the left-handed for the tri-series.

“He (Jaiswal) should have been picked for the India A squad. It is unfortunate. With Rohit (Sharma) and Shubman there, you understand that he may not get game time, but he should have gone to Sri Lanka instead of sitting at home. He is too good a player to miss out on any format. He should not treat this as a disappointment," MSK Prasad told The Times of India.

However, Prasad admitted that these kinds of things happen in cricket, citing his personal experience of how he could not find a place for Shreyas Iyer despite his wonderful performances in domestic cricket.

“These things happen in cricket. When I was chairman of selectors, we could not find a place for Shreyas Iyer despite him doing extraordinarily well in domestic cricket. Jaiswal is already a tough boy, and this will only make him tougher," added MSK Prasad.
