India secured a thumping nine-wicket win against Afghanistan in their third and final ODI of the series on Saturday, June 20 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While chasing 219 in the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma played match winning knocks of unbeaten 110 off 86 deliveries and 79 off 69 balls respectively.
Riding on the efforts by openers, the Men in Blue chased the target in just 28.4 overs. At the end, India's vice captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten after scoring 20 off 19 balls to finish the game in a good fashion. Notably, the win marked Iyer's first win as vice-captain, and he celebrated the moment with a low-five with head coach Gautam Gambhir, which left the former India batter with a smile.
India's epic show with the bat
While chasing a target of 219, India cruised to 224/1 in just 28.4 overs, making light work of the chase as Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi's century went in vain.
India's opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a strong start. At the beginning, Rohit adopted a cautious approach before finding his rhythm and timing, while Jaiswal seemed comfortable from the start, attacking Asmatullah Omarzai with three boundaries in a 23-run opening over that also featured five penalty runs awarded to India.
Rohit and Jaiswal stitched an outstanding partnership of 170 runs in 23 overs, which completely took the game away from Afghanistan. However, Rohit was removed by Mohammad Nabi when the former India skipper attempted a pull shot but found Sediquallah Atal at deep mid-wicket.
Prasidh Krishna's masterclass bowling spell
In the first innings, Prasidh Krishna shined with the ball, exposing Afghanistan's top-order to leave them struggling at 36/4. However, Skipper Shahidi then produced a fighting knock of 102 off  131 balls helping the visitors recover to 218.
