AFG vs SA 1st ODI: Historic moment for Afghanistan, beat South Africa for first time in cricket

Hashmatullah Shahid-led Afghanistan created a historic moment for their nation on the ground of Sharjah by doing what had been done till now. They defeated a big team like South Africa in the first ODI. This victory of Afghanistan is also their first one against South Africa in any format. They stole the show first with their amazing bowling and then batting and as a result, the team won the match by 6 wickets. South Africa batted first and the entire team collapsed after scoring just 106 runs in 33.3 overs. In response, the Afghanistan team scored 107 runs losing 4 wickets in 26 overs.

The Afghanistan team was able to achieve this feat due to the brilliance of Fazalhaq Farooqi and 18-year-old Allah Ghazanfar. South Africa won the toss but Farooqi had already given great success to the team in the form of Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram. After this, he dismissed Tony de Zorzi by Farooqi and Jason Smith by Mohammad. Although Wiaan Mulder tried to fight and played an inning of 52 runs but no other player could support him from the other end. Bjorn Fortuin scored 16 runs but no other batsman from the other end could do anything special. The result was that the entire team collapsed for 106 runs.

 

For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi took 4 wickets while Allah took 3 wickets and Rashid Khan settled with 2 wickets. South Africa's condition was so bad that the team lost 4 wickets within 6 runs. At the same time, 7 wickets of the team had fallen at 36.

 

Afghanistan had a very poor start in chasing the target. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out without opening the account. Riaz Hasan also got out after scoring 16 runs. On the other hand, Rahmat Shah scored 8 runs and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 16 runs. In the end, Azmatullah Omarzai and Gulbadin Naib together led the team to victory. Omarzai scored 25 and Naib scored 34 runs. In just 26 overs the team lost 4 wickets and scored 107 runs. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took 12 wickets, Bjorn Fortuin took 2 wickets and Aiden Markram took 1 wicket.
