England’s Test vice-captain Harry Brook has apologised for his physical altercation with a bouncer in New Zealand's Wellington before the third ODI ahead of the Ashes 2025-26. The incident took place hours before the third ODI against New Zealand.
A drunk Brook was refused entry into a nightclub. He was involved in an argument with a bouncer. Later, Brook reported the incident and revealed that he was not injured during the physical altercation.
The ODI and T20I captain has been fined £30,000 by the England Cricket Board (ECB) and let off with a warning ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
"I want to apologise for my actions," said Brook in a statement released via the ECB. "I fully accept that my behaviour was wrong and brought embarrassment to both myself and the England team.

"Representing England is the greatest honour of all, which I take seriously and I am deeply sorry for letting down my teammates, coaches and supporters. I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those representing your country.
"I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologise unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again."
What Key said about Brook’s behaviour
Earlier, England’s Director of Cricket, Rob Key had revealed that he warned Brook and Jacob Bethell when they were on New Zealand tour. However, Key had promised an investigation into England's four-day Noosa trip after the Gabba defeat. A video of Ben Duckett in drunken state went viral on social media. Also, it was alleged that several other England cricketers engaged in excessive drinking before Adelaide Test.
What's next for Brook?
Brook will travel to Sri Lanka where England are they are scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20Is leading up to T20 World Cup 2026. The ODI series begins on January 22. England have been placed in Group C alongside Nepal, West Indies, Bangladesh and Italy. England's campaign opener is against Nepal on February 8 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
