Pace juggernaut Mitchell Starc has once again demonstrated that age is merely a statistic, delivering a masterclass in fast bowling during Australia’s dominant 4-1 Ashes victory over England. At 35, the left-arm quick remained a focal point of the summer, silencing critics with his trademark raw pace and relentless stamina. His ability to produce match-winning spells throughout the series served as a powerful reminder of his enduring importance to the Australian attack.
Despite the persistent scrutiny regarding his workload and the inevitable questions about a transition to younger talent, Starc appears rejuvenated rather than ready for the exit. He recently expressed that the prestige of representing Australia and the "thrill of wearing the baggy green" remain his primary motivators. Far from slowing down, the veteran pacer hinted at a long-term future, even suggesting that a trip to England for the 2027 Ashes series is well within his sights.

Mitchell Starc breaks silence on his retirement speculations
Starc’s philosophy on retirement is rooted in his competitive impact rather than his birth certificate. Speaking with SEN Cricket, he emphasized that his career will continue as long as he feels he can contribute to Australian victories. While he admitted he hasn't spent much time dwelling on a final date, his current form suggests that he still has "plenty left in the tank" for the challenges ahead.
“I obviously haven't had a chance to think of it yet. I think just putting on a baggy green is incentive enough to keep going. While I'm still able to play a role in this group, and I feel like I can contribute in major ways, I'd love to keep going out there and emptying the tank for the team,” Starc was quoted as saying by SEN Cricket.
In a strategic move to prolong his career at the highest level, Starc officially stepped away from T20I cricket in September 2025. This decision was designed to streamline his focus toward the longer formats of the game, ensuring his body can withstand the physical demands of Test and ODI cricket over the coming years.
By stepping back from the shortest format, Starc intends to use the resulting breaks in the international schedule to manage his recovery and peak performance more effectively. This disciplined approach is centered around a clear long-term goal: maintaining his elite form for the 2027 ODI World Cup and remaining a spearhead for the Australian pace attack.
“Without T20 cricket now, I've got a chance just to sit back and reflect on a few weeks, maybe rebuild the body a little bit, and go again. I'll sit back and watch the women's team do their thing against India and see the guys do their stuff over in India as well,” he added.

Mitchell Starc's total domination throughout Ashes 2025-2026
The 35-year-old emerged as one of the definitive heroes of the 2025–26 Ashes series, anchoring Australia’s 4-1 victory. In a grueling five-Test campaign that often breaks down younger bowlers, the 35-year-old veteran spearheaded the attack without missing a single match. His workload was immense, delivering over 150 overs of high-intensity bowling, yet he defied typical age-related decline by consistently clocking speeds in excess of 140 km/h until the final day in Sydney.
The statistical reality of his dominance is staggering, as he bagged 31 wickets at a clinical average of 19.93, a feat that included two match-defining five-wicket hauls. His brilliance earned him two Player of the Match awards and the prestigious Compton–Miller Medal as the Player of the Series.
