The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is set to announce India's squad for Asia Cup 2025 on September 19, Tuesday. It is expected that the selectors will make some bold calls and multiple prominent players will be left out from the squad for the continental tournament which will commence from September 9.
Ahead of the much-anticipated selection meeting, former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth has shared a surprising suggestion and has demended the selection committee to include batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Men in Blue's squad for Asia Cup. Srikkanth feels that the 14-year-old has showed immense maturity and despite being quite young, is ready to make his mark on international cricket.
“You have to play boldly. Don’t make him wait. Don’t say things like let him mature. He is already playing with remarkable maturity. His shot-making has been on another level. If I were chairman, I would definitely have him in the 16," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
“Samson is doubtful, according to me. My first-choice opener is Abhishek Sharma, no doubt. I will have two more openers. My picks would be Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Sai Sudharsan, with Shubman Gill as an option. If I were a selector, I would keep Vaibhav in the 15 for the T20 World Cup. He has been outstanding. I think it should be Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sai Sudharsan. I would take two out of these three. That would be my preference” he added.
Suryavanshi was sensational with the bat for India U-19
Meanwhile, Suryavanshi rose to fame after becoming the youngest player in history to score a century in T20s during IPL 2025. He did so for Rajasthan Royals in a clash against the Gujarat Titans and brought up his ton after facing just 35 deliveries. The 14-year-old was then picked in India's U-19 squad for a five-match away ODI series against England where he impressed once again.

Suryavanshi finished as the top run-getter of the series with 355 runs in five games, including a stunning knock of 143 in the fourth ODI. He will now be seen in action in the upcoming U-19 tour against Australia which will consist of two unofficial Tests and three ODIs. The tour is set to commence from September 21.
