India middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, who was ignored in India's squad for the five-Test match series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England, smashed a brilliant century for Mumbai against TNCA XI on the opening day of the Buchi Babu Trophy tournament in Chennai.
Batting at number five, Sarfaraz reached the 100-run mark in just 92 balls and also managed to put a 100-run stand for the sixth wicket with Aakash Parkar.
The incident happened when Sarfaraz attempted to try out a new stance, but switched to his usual setup immediately. Not long after, he seemed to be suffering from a hamstring issue and needed medical assistance. After that, he was retired hurt on 113* (114) after suffering a hamstring issue and potentially cramps, which forced him to leave the field.
Mumbai's top order failed to perform
Mumbai captain Ayush Mhatre and Musheer Khan failed to make an impact for the team. The duo opened the innings and scored only 13 and 30 runs respectively. Number three batter Suved Parker scored a valiant 72, while Sarfaraz's aggressive ton has helped Mumbai make a comeback as they will look to post a mammoth total against TNCA XI.
Sarfaraz Khan career
Sarfaraz recently transformed his body and is eyeing a comeback in the Indian Test side after he missed the spot in the Shubman Gill-led side for the five-Test match series of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England. He was picked in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series in Australia, but he didn’t play a single game in the five-match affair.
Sarfaraz's last Test outing came against New Zealand during the BlackCaps tour of India in 2024. After smashing a brilliant 150 in the first Test against the Kiwis in Bengaluru, Sarfaraz just managed 21 runs in the subsequent four innings as India was blanked 0-3 at home.
Sarfaraz, who made his Test debut against England in February 2024, has played six Tests so far, where he has batted in 11 innings. In 11 Test innings so far, Sarfaraz has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.10. However, Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair failed to make an impact with the bat during the five-Test match series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in England. The Mumbai batter has a great opportunity to be in the scheme of things again, ahead of a packed home season.
Sarfaraz's recent outing in First-Class cricket came against England before the Test series, where he played a steady 92-run knock representing India A.
