India's explosive batter Abhishek Sharma has made history in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup 2025 as went on to shatter the record for the most runs in a single edition of the tournament. The 25-year-old Indian opener surpassed the tallies set by two previous record-holders in the 2022 edition, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 281 runs in six matches for Pakistan, and India's Virat Kohli, who amassed 276 runs in five games. Abhishek broke Rizwan’s record in emphatic fashion, reaching the milestone early in the Super Four clash.

He etched his name into the record books in style, launching a massive six off Dushmantha Chameera in only the fifth over of the game. This powerful shot was a perfect illustration of the explosive batting form he has showcased throughout the tournament. Abhishek's remarkable consistency has been a highlight of India's campaign, he has already hammered back-to-back half-centuries against Pakistan and Bangladesh. His aggressive and quick-scoring approach at the top of the order has consistently given India a flying start, firmly establishing him as one of the standout performers of the tournament.

The star batter has already amassed over 200 runs in the ongoing tournament, a feat no other batter in the tournament has yet achieved. His scores in the two most recent Super 4 matches against Pakistan and Bangladesh have been crucial to India's success. Following him on the scoring chart are Bangladesh's Saif Hassan with 178 runs from four matches, and Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan, who has accumulated 160 runs across six games.

Abhishek's overall Asia Cup career places him among an elite group. He is now the third-highest run-getter in the history of the T20I format of the tournament, joining Virat Kohli and Pathum Nissanka as the only batters to surpass the 300-run mark in T20 Asia Cup matches. His consistency and aggression were perfectly illustrated in India's last Super 4 clash against Bangladesh, where he top-scored with a commanding 75 runs off just 37 balls, an innings peppered with 6 fours and 5 sixes.

He didn't stop there and followed it up with another top notch knock, this time against Sri Lanka right before the final. He struck a spellbinding 31-ball 61 before walking back to the hut.
