Suryakumar Yadav broke silence on his poor run of form in Asia Cup

Suryakumar finished his Asia Cup campaign with just 72 runs

India captain Suryakumar Yadav feels that he isn't out-of-form, but is rather in need of scoring runs following the Asia Cup final against Pakistan. This comes after the 35-year-old had a dismal campaign with the bat in the tournament and was only able to score 72 runs in 7 matches with his highest individual score being 47. Though India did go on to chase the target of 147 in the all-important final, Suryakumar once again failed with the bat and got dismissed for just one run.

However, Suryakumar brushed aside any concerns regarding his form after the final, stating that the runs will eventually come if he keeps on practicing hard.

“I feel that when it comes to form, I believe more in what I’m doing in the nets. How spot-on I am with my preparation is what I really focus on. Once the match starts, everything runs on auto-pilot. So if you’re saying I’m out of form, I don’t think that’s the case — I’m not out of form, I’m just out of runs. I believe the runs will come if you keep practicing, and with God watching from above, if you keep working hard, everything will fall into place at the right time. It’s happening for others now, who knows what happens next," Suryakumar said in the post-match press-conference.

Suryakumar's poor form in T20Is

Though the India captain had given a brilliant performance with the bat in IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians, he failed to deliver on the international stage. Notably, Suryakumar wasn't in great form in T20Is even before the commencement of Asia Cup as he hadn't been able to score much in India's previous two assignments in the format against South Africa and England. He will be hoping to improve in India's next T20I series that will be against Australia and will begin from October 29.

India's statement victory over Pakistan

Meanwhile, India lifted their record-extending ninth Asia Cup title by defeating Pakistan in the final on Sunday. After bundling out the Men in Green for 146 runs in 19.1 overs, Suryakumar & Co. went on to chase down the target with just two deliveries left to spare. Tilak Varma was the star of the show and played an unbeaten knock of 69 to seal India's victory. He was assisted well by Shivam Dube, who formed a valiant 60-run stand with him and played a vital inning of 33.
