Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag feels that rather than seasoned performers like Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill, the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy will turn games around for the Men in Blue in Asia Cup 2025. Alongside the two players, he also picked Jasprit Bumrah as someone who will contribute massively for the team in the continental tournament.
“I think Abhishek Sharma can be a game-changer. Bumrah is always a game-changer. Varun Chakravarthy, with his mystery bowling, was very effective in the Champions Trophy and in the T20 format as well. So, these are some game changers for India who can win matches on their own," Sehwag said on Sony Sports.
Sehwag believes India will win the Asia Cup
Sehwag had recently chosen India as the best team present in Asia Cup 2025 and had even remarked that they have the squad that can very well go on to win the tournament. Notably, the side has a great record under the captaincy of Suryakumar, emerging victorious in all of their previous four T20I series. Their aim will definitely be to win the Asia Cup for a record ninth time in their history.
“We are world champions. We just won the World Cup, T20 World Cup and I am sure that we are the best team in the Asia Cup and hopefully we will win the Asia Cup," Sehwag had stated.
“I think we have very good side and SKY is leading from the front and he’s a top player in T20 format. I’m sure that under his captaincy, we will do well because we’ve seen in the past when SKY has taken over, we won lot of T20 games and I’m sure that we will win Asia Cup also," he added.
Meanwhile, India will be kicking-off their Asia Cup campaign on September 10 with the clash against UAE. They will then be facing-off against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 before concluding their group stage with the match against Oman on September 19.
