Abhishek Sharma smashed 74 off 39 vs Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025 Super Four.

India’s young batting sensation Abhishek Sharma has revealed why he always looks to start his innings aggressively in T20Is. According to him, just like batters want to get off the mark quickly, bowlers are equally eager to take a wicket on the very first ball and that’s exactly why he likes to take the attack to them right away.

Abhishek is in the form of his life in the Asia Cup 2025 and has developed a unique habit of getting off the mark with a boundary. He began the tournament in style by smashing a six against the UAE. In India’s second game against Pakistan, he got going with a boundary again, and he repeated the same in the next match against Oman.

In the recent clash against Pakistan, he opened his innings with a six off none other than Shaheen Shah Afridi. However, in India's last clash against Bangladesh, he eventually settled for a single to officially get off the mark.

"I got the job done for my team, I have told before also, I go with the flow. When it's in my range, I go after the first ball as well and try to get the powerplay for my team. In a few matches, I wanted to go for the first ball because they wanted to get a wicket. This was a fresh wicket, I wanted to have a look, so me and Shubman decided to have a look and then go" said Abhishek Sharma in post match presentation.

Abhishek Sharma is currently the highest run-getter in the Asia Cup 2025, smashing 248 runs in his five outings of the tournament, including two half-centuries at an average of 62.

He also revealed that his attacking approach came after doing a lot of work in the practice sessions without losing his wickets in the nets.

"This was a fresh wicket, I wanted to have a look, so me and Shubman decided to have a look and then go. I always wanted to go with the field, I always see the field and then go for my shots. I want to play according to the field. I have done a lot of work in the practice sessions, that is a time when the batter gets to play a lot of balls. When you play too many shots in the net, you can get out but I practice and try to not to get out in the nets" Abhishek added.

Coming back to the India vs Bangladesh clash, Abhishek Sharma's hard-hitting 75-run knock, followed by a clinical bowling display by Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy, as India comfortably hammered Bangladesh by 41 runs, with this win India have sealed their berth in the Asia Cup 2025 final.
