Former India captain Virat Kohli rolled back the clock and played a spectacular knock against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022. The maverick batter smashed his maiden T20I century, which was also his first international ton in 1,019 days. During his wonderous knock of 122 not off 61 balls, Kohli powered 12 fours and six sixes and registered an outstanding strike rate of 200. Kohli ended his Asia Cup campaign with 276 runs in five matches and in the process smashed two half-centuries and a ton.

Kohli's masterclass earned him the ultimate compliment from another former India captain, Sourav Ganguly. The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) president lavished praise on the maverick Indian batter by saying that Kohli is more ‘skillful’ than him.

“The comparison should be in terms of skill as a player. I think he is more skillful than I’m. We played in different generations, and we played a lot of cricket. I played in my generation, and he will continue playing, probably playing more games than I did. Currently, I have played more than what he has but he’ll get past that. He is tremendous,” the former India opening batter said on the YouTube channel TRS Clips.

Kohli's return to his ominous touch comes as delightful news for Indian cricket and its fans even though the Men in Blue performed poorly in the continental competition and were ousted without even qualifying for the final.

With the ICC T20 World Cup just over a month away, India needs their maverick batter in full song in order to clinch the prestigious trophy 15 years after winning the inaugural edition. Also, let's not forget that the ODI World Cup isn't too far away either and Kohli regaining his old touch, will only serve the country well.
