Inglis dove to his left to complete the catch, and the umpire initially signaled him out. However, the catch was reviewed, and replays revealed that the ball had bounced just in front of Inglis before he took it. The crowd, witnessing the replay, expressed their displeasure with Inglis's actions, booing him for what they perceived as unsportsmanlike behavior.
Australia Wins Toss, Rain Delays Play
Australia's captain, Mitchell Marsh, won the toss and decided to field first in their quest to clinch the series against their opponents. The world champions recalled three senior players for this crucial match. However, just after the toss, a fresh downpour forced the pitch and square to be covered up once again, disrupting the start of play.
Despite the rain delay, play was scheduled to resume at 2:45 pm local time (1345 GMT) with a reduced match of 39 overs per side instead of the usual 50.
Australia welcomed back their World Cup-winning trio of in-form opener Travis Head, wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, and leg-spinner Adam Zampa. This trio's return strengthened Australia's lineup as they aimed to establish an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. Alex Carey, who had filled in as wicketkeeper for Inglis in the first three games, retained his place in the team as a specialist batsman. His inclusion was justified by his match-winning 74 in the second ODI at Leeds and an unbeaten 77 in the recent defeat at Chester-le-Street. England opted to field the same side, which meant that injury-plagued fast bowler Jofra Archer was playing in consecutive matches. Archer's performance in Chester-le-Street, where he took 2-67, was encouraging and suggested a positive recovery from his injuries.
