The match, set to take place at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, is crucial as India aims to build on their current 1-0 series lead. This lead was secured after a thrilling two-wicket victory over Australia in the first T20I, held at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag on November 23.

Varma, who contributed 12 runs off 10 balls in the opening match, emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear head and playing according to the needs of the situation. He was eventually dismissed by Tanveer Sangha in that game. Staying true to his role in the team is a priority for Varma, as he looks to support the team's efforts in the ongoing series.

"My mindset was like in that situation, the leg spinner was bowling, so I want to take charge because we want 10 per over in that situation. So at that time my mindset was clear. If leg spinner is bowling, I'll go for him. So for fast bowlers, settled batsman, captain Surya bhai (Suryakumar Yadav) was batting. So I was confident that he can finish against the fast bowlers. So especially that over I want to charge the leg spinner," said Tilak.

"My mindset is simple. As I said before, I have got a role in the team. So I just want to stick to that role and I'll be clear with my mindset," he added.

The Indian team, led by stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav, put up a remarkable performance in the first T20I. Yadav's exceptional 80-run knock off just 42 deliveries, featuring nine boundaries and four sixes, was a key factor in India's successful chase of 209 runs. He was well-supported by Ishan Kishan, another Mumbai Indians player, who scored a solid 58 runs off 39 balls.

With the second T20I on the horizon, this refreshed Indian squad is poised to extend their lead in the series. A victory in Thiruvananthapuram would give them a significant 2-0 advantage, setting the stage for a potential series win. Varma's clear and simple approach to his game reflects the team's overall focus and determination to maintain their winning momentum.
