Australia captain Pat Cummins hurries home ahead of 3rd Test in Indore

Australia captain Pat Cummins returned home after India registered a thumping six-wicket win against the Baggy Greens in the second Test in Delhi. Cummins had returned to Sydney due to personal reasons. The Australian skipper will spend some time in Sydney before returning to India to participate in the third Test match in Indore, which is scheduled to begin on March 01.

“Pat Cummins has flown home for personal reasons due to a serious family illness. He will return to India later this week to rejoin preparations for the third Test in Indore," Cricket Australia told Sports Tak.

The right-arm fast bowler looked like a pale shadow of himself in the first two matches of the series, both of which Australia ended up losing in a comprehensive fashion. Cummins has bowled 33.3 overs in the series so far, bagging just three wickets in the process.

After getting humbled in Delhi Test on February 19 (Sunday), Cummins rued the team's drubbing in the second Test as he underlined the lack of application from his batters.

"Nagpur maybe we underplayed it, we probably overplayed it Delhi at times in the second innings. You've got to find a way to try and put pressure back on the bowlers. They're really, really good bowlers, especially in these conditions. Probably just at times maybe just overplayed it," Cummins said in a post-match conference.

"I thought they bowled really well. It's not easy out there. But perhaps some guys went away from their methods. Each batter has their own way to go about it. I don't think there's any one size fits all rule. Unfortunately, quite a few of us got out with kind of cross-batted shots which might not be our preferred method," he added.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma's men have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they now lead 2-0 in the four-match series.
