Aamer Jamal becomes 5th Pakistan pacer to take fifer in BPL, leads Comilla Victorians to 34-run win despite Rizwan's slow knock

Pakistan's fast-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal registered his maiden five-wicket haul in the format to lead Comilla Victorians against Khulna Tigers with a 34-run win at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on February 7. Jamal's five wicket-haul helped Comilla Victorians bowl out Khulna Tigers for 115 in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024
 

Earlier, Comilla Victorians captain Litton Das won the toss and opted to bat first. Mohammad Rizwan struggled in the powerplay overs. In the first three overs, the score was 9 for no loss. Das hit the first six of the innings in the fourth over. He hit three more sixes in the powerplay overs. Rizwan ended the sixth over bowled by Mohammad Nawaz with a boundary.
 

Rizwan continued to struggle whereas Das pushed the scoring rate. In the 10th over, Das got bowled by Nasum Ahmed. He scored 45 runs from 30 balls including a couple of fours and four sixes. In the same over, Rizwan was dismissed lbw. He scored 21 runs from 28 balls. Will Jacks and Towhid Hridoy could not capitalise in the middle overs. 

In the 16th over, Mohammad Wasim Jr got rid of Will Jacks. The Englishman scored 22 runs from 27 balls. In the 18th over, Khushdil Shah got run out. Faheem Ashraf then dismissed Towhid Hridoy who scored 16 runs from 17 balls. Jaker Ali hit Wasim Jr for two fours and a six in the penultimate over. In the final over, Asraf was hit for a six by Mahidul Islam Ankon. But he dismissed Ankon which was followed by Jamal's run out. Jaker's 8-ball 18 cameo helped Comilla Victorians post 149/7.
 

Khulna Tigers fail to roar
 

Anamul Haque got Khulna Tigers' run chase off to a good start. He hit Tanvir Islam for a four and a six. Haque then hit Aliss Islam for two fours before getting bowled for 12-ball 19. In the fifth over, Jacks dismissed Afif Hossain for a single-digit score. Shah was dropped at backward point off Mustafizur Rahman's bowing. He finished the poweprlay overs with Akbar Ali's wicket.

Islam in his second over dismissed Parvez Hossain Emon for a three-ball duck. Evin Lewis struggled to score. He managed to hit Jamal for a six only to lose his wicket two balls later. Khulna Tigers lost half their side for 49 in the ninth over. In his next over, Jamal dismissed his countryman Nawaz for a single-digit score. He followed it up with the wickets of Ashraf and Nahidul in his third over. He completed his fifer with the wicket of Nasum. He became the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the season. 
 

In the penultimate over, Wasim Jr. hit Tanvir for two sixes and then lost his wicket in an attempt to hit another. He departed for a 12-ball 23. Khulna Tigers were bowled out for 115 with seven balls left in the innings.
 

Jamal joins elite list
 

Apart from Jamal, four other Pakistan pacers have taken a fifer in BPL history. Mohammad Sami did it first with 5/6 in the 2012 edition. Hasan Ali (5/20) is the only other bowler to do it for Comilla Victorians. The two other Pakistani bowlers to achieve the feat are Mohammad Amir (6 for 17) and Wahab Riaz (5 for 8).
