Former India captain Virat Kohli who failed to perform in the second Test match against Bangladesh is on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's iconic record in the longest format of the game. Kohli will now be seen in action for India in the second Test match which is scheduled to take place at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. After a forgetful outing in the first Test match, the modern-day great will look to come up with a big show. During the second Test, Kohli will have a chance to create history and become the fastest batter in the world to score 27,000 runs in international cricket.
Kohli has scored 26,965 in his 534 outings so far and he only needs 35 more runs in the Kanpur Test to cross the 27,000-run mark and become the fastest batter in the world to achieve the feat.Only three batters—Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), and Ricky Ponting (27,483)—have crossed the 27,000-run mark in international cricket so far.

Tendulkar reached his remarkable milestone in just 623 innings, setting a world record. In contrast, Kohli has batted 593 times so far, showcasing his own impressive consistency and skill.
Kohli is also on the verge of becoming the fourth Indian batter after Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar to score 9000 runs in Test cricket. Kohli, who made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in Kingston on June 20, 2011, has 8871 runs to his name in 114 Tests played so far. He needs 129 runs more to join the elite list.
Kohli currently boasts 29 centuries in Test cricket and if he manages to score one more in the second Test then he will join the elite company of Tendulkar and Ponting as the only players to achieve at least 30 centuries in both Test and ODI formats. Tendulkar concluded his career with 49 ODI centuries and 51 in Tests, while Ponting finished with 41 in Tests and 30 in ODIs. Kohli, with 50 centuries in ODIs and 29 in Tests, is on the cusp of this remarkable milestone, and he has also notched up one century in T20Is.
