Mehidy Hasan Miraz shared a humorous story of getting stung by a bee while batting in Bangladesh's second Test match against India at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium. On the fourth day, Mehidy scored a useful 20 off 42 balls which included four boundaries before Jasprit Bumrah forced him to make a false shot.
Mominul Haque and Mehidy joined a crucial 54-run partnership that enabled Bangladesh to post 233 in their first innings thanks to Haque's unbeaten 107 runs. Mehidy described the encounter as one in which he felt the sting of the bee only after taking a shot.
“I didn’t know that the bee was inside me. After I played the shot, it stung me, and then I got to know about it and felt the pain,” Mehidy said in the press conference after the day’s play.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz on Shakib Al Hasan's Test retirement
Mehidy also added that Shakib Al Hasan had been thinking about concluding his Test career for a while. On September 26, 27-year-old Shakib declared his intention to step down from the highest level with Bangladesh's home Test match against South Africa at Mirpur.
“Shakib bhai told about it earlier and we knew it. He had told us about his plans to retire from Test cricket. It’s not that he took the decision all of a sudden. It has to go through a process, he had to talk to the team management and discussed it with the players and that’s how we accepted him,” Mehidy added.
Mehidy ended with 6.4-0-41-4, which was a respectable day at work. Along with Shakib, Mashrafe Mortaza, and Mustafizur Rahman, he became the fourth bowler from Bangladesh to reach 300 wickets in international cricket.
India defeated Bangladesh in the second Test at Green Park, Kanpur, to secure a record-breaking 18th consecutive series victory at home. With the series won 2-0, India guaranteed their place atop the World Test Championship 2023–25 cycle.
India forced a result despite missing two days to rain thanks to some incredible batting displays on Day 4 and a clinical display with the ball on the last day, which saw them bowl Bangladesh out for just 146 in the opening session. Bangladesh's innings ended in 47 overs as Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed three wickets, while Akash Deep claimed the lone wicket.
And with seven wickets remaining, India easily defeated Bangladesh, reaching the target of 95 in just 17.2 overs. Jaiswal scored the highest, 51.
