Following their dominant victory in the first Test match, India is hosting Bangladesh for the second game of the series in Kanpur. The Rohit Sharma-led side secured a substantial 280-run win in the opener and is determined to maintain their unbeaten record against Bangladesh. The all-rounders, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, played crucial roles in India's victory in Chennai with their impressive performances. Jadeja, who shares all-round duties with Ashwin, is on the brink of a significant milestone in Kanpur. The left-handed batsman is just one wicket away from completing 300 wickets in Test cricket.
Ravindra Jadeja closing in on historic milestone
The moment Jadeja takes his first wicket in the Kanpur Test match, he will become the third Indian all-rounder to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 3000 runs and claiming 300 wickets. Kapil Dev was the pioneer, becoming the first Indian to reach this milestone.
Kapil Dev, the former India captain, amassed a total of 5248 runs and scalped 434 wickets in his 131 Test matches. At one point, Kapil held the record for the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. Ashwin, another accomplished all-rounder, has scored 3422 runs and taken 523 wickets.
Ravindra Jadeja's exceptional all-round abilities have been on full display, as he has amassed 3122 runs and claimed 299 wickets so far. The star Indian all-rounder is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone: his 300th Test wicket. If he manages to take a wicket in Kanpur, Jadeja will become the second-fastest player to reach this double milestone of 3000 runs and 300 wickets. The current record holder is Ian Botham, who achieved this feat in 72 matches.
The first day of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh was marred by rain, leading to only 35 overs of play. Bangladesh lost three wickets during this brief period. Akash Deep and R Ashwin claimed two wickets each. Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim will resume batting for Bangladesh on the second day. However, rain might play spoilsport again on Day 2.
