Bangladesh batters' bravado on Day 4 has put them in driver seat in the first Test against Pakistan as Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz's stunning helped visitors pile a colossal total of 565 in reply to 448/6 dec. With 117-run lead handing over their head, Pakistan batters took the field on the fag end of Day 4 to only strengthen Bangladesh's position in the match. Shoriful Islam hunted down Saim Ayub on 1 off 3 to add to Pakistan's misery. This left Pakistan closing the day at the score of 23/1 as they are still trailing behind 94 runs with Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood intact on the crease.

 

The Day 4 saw Pakistani bowlers bundling out Bangladesh for 565 runs after all the frustration on Day 3. This followed a significant first-innings lead established by Bangladesh, which was 117 runs.

 

Mushfiqur Rahim's mighty knock help Bangladesh dominate Pakistan

 

Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim played a pivotal role in Bangladesh's innings, scoring a magnificent 191 runs from 341 balls. His innings included 22 fours and a six. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also contributed significantly, scoring 77 runs from 179 balls. The day began with Bangladesh resuming their innings at 316-5, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das well-set.

After the play resumed, Naseem Shah dismissed Liton Das, caught by Mohammad Rizwan. However, Mushfiqur Rahim remained resolute and went on to score a century, becoming the third player to do so in the Test. Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz formed a formidable partnership, putting Pakistan under pressure. Rahim was on the verge of scoring his fourth double century but was dismissed by Mohammad Ali, falling nine runs short.

With Rahim's dismissal, Pakistan wrapped up Bangladesh's innings. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah claimed the wickets of Hasan Mahmud, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Shoriful Islam, respectively.

The Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is being played as part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. Both teams are vying for success to improve their position in the WTC points table. In their previous encounters, Pakistan and Bangladesh have faced each other in six Test series, spanning 13 matches. Pakistan has dominated the head-to-head record, winning 12 matches and drawing one.
