In a bizarre incident that took place on Day 3 of the second Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan had to be stretchered off the field after missing a straightforward catch with the ball hitting him on his chest as he stood watching.
Commentators believed that Hasan had lost sight of the ball in the background of the crowd but those watching on TV and in the stadiums saw the humour in the incident as Mehidy did not even move an inch at gully even as the ball came straight at him.
The incident took place on the second ball of South Africa's second innings during their Test at Gqeberha. South African opener Sarel Erwee guided the ball to gully, where Hasan was standing and watched the ball as though it was headed in another direction. Replays in slow motion showed Hasan standing and staring in another direction as the ball crashed into his body at a catchable height.
His teammates immediately went to his aid as the all-rounder went down instantly, seemingly in a lot of pain. Hasan then had to be stretchered off the field, as he clutched the part of his body that the ball had crashed into. He later received treatment in the dressing room and soon returned to the field and started to bowl again.
The video of his injury went viral on social media with many of the reactions being hilarious. Some fans called it the worst dropped catch ever as Hasan had no clue about where the ball was even coming from, even though it was coming straight at him.
The second Test match is going well in the favour of the Proteas after they scored 453 while batting first. they then went on to bowl Bangladesh out for 217 in the first innings. This incident came in South Africa's second innings after SA chose to not enforce the follow on and batted for a second time to increase their lead. The visitors Bangladesh now need 369 runs to secure a win in the Test series.
