Bangladesh's experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has not been considered for selection in Bangladesh's squad for upcoming three-ODI series against West Indies starting December 8.
Shakib who did not get his farewell Test on home soil amidst security reasons had expresed that he wants to represent his country in Champions Trophy 2024. However, he was not a part of the ODI series against Afghanistan and now he won't play against West Indies either. This will be Bangladesh's last ODI series before the major ICC tournament next year.
"He (Shakib) is not available for the ODIs against West Indies, and we have prepared our squad accordingly," a member of the selection panel told Cricbuzz on November 30.
During the ODI series between Bangladesh and West Indies, Shakib will prepare and play in the upcoming Lanka T10 Super League 2024. Currently, he is playing for the Bangla Tigers in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 League.
A Bangladesh Cricket Official (BCB) went on to say that Shakib is not in right frame of mind to play international cricket as it is not the same as playing franchise cricket.
"Given his current mental state, we felt Shakib isn't in the right condition to play. Playing franchise cricket is not the same as representing the national team," the official added.
After the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Shakib will be seen in action for Galle Marvels at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on December 11.
Meanwhile, BCB officials are hopeful that Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy recover from their respective groin injuries before naming the squad.
