The incident occurred in the second innings of the BBL match while Hilton Cartwright was attempting to save a boundary. This injury came as a big blow for the Melbourne Stars as it raised concerns about Cartwright's cricketing future.

On the third ball of the 13th over, Cooper Connolly attempted a drive off Adam Milne's delivery. Hilton Cartwright, fielding at sweeper cover, sprinted to his left and dived to stop the ball. Unfortunately, he landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and neck, causing severe pain.

Medical team took no time and immediately rushed to attend to Cartwright, and a stretcher was brought onto the field. The injured player was placed on a neck brace before being carefully stretchered off the field on a medical cart. Despite suffering the gruesome neck injury, Cartwright remained conscious and was able to communicate. He was then taken to a hospital for further treatment.

Following the unfortunate incident, Melbourne Stars released an official statement confirming that Hilton Cartwright had been taken to the hospital for scans on his neck. The franchise assured fans that a further update on Cartwright's condition would be provided soon.

"Hilton has been taken to hospital for scans on his neck. We’ll provide everyone with an update when we have more information," Melbourne Stars franchise said in a statement after the incident.

Hilton Cartwright had a modest outing with the bat, scoring just 18 runs off 17 balls. Before the injury, he struggled to find his rhythm and managed only one boundary. Given the severity of the injury, it seems unlikely that Cartwright will be able to continue playing in the current BBL season. The Melbourne Stars will hope for a speedy recovery and a potential return later in the tournament.
