India captain Rohit Sharma revealed why they picked young pacer Harshit Rana instead of left-arm speedster Arshdeep Singh in their playing XI for the opener clash against Bangladesh. Rana made his ODI debut during India's last fifty-over assignment against England, the pacer has played three ODIs where he picked six wickets.
There were talks that Arshdeep Singh will be the right person to include in India's squad but Rohit revealed that Harshit has picked his hit-the-deck abilities ahead of the variation a left-arm pacer brings.
"Rana picked for his hit-the-deck abilities ahead of the variation a left-arm quick brings" said Rohit at toss.
Team India had lost the toss and were asked to bowl first at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. While writing this copy, Bangladesh lost two wickets where Mohammed Shami got the first breakthrough picking Soumya Sarkar's wicket. Soon after that Harshit Rana picked Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in the second over.
