Notably, this match marked Shami's debut in the ICC Champions Trophy. He has a remarkable record in ODI World Cups, with 55 wickets across three editions, including an impressive 24 wickets in the 2023 tournament.
The 34-year-old Shami, who recorded his sixth ODI five-wicket haul in this match, also holds the record for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian bowler in ODIs. Javagal Srinath and Harbhajan Singh are tied for second place with three five-wicket hauls each.

Shami also became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets. He completed the milestone after taking his third wicket in his 103rd innings, surpassing Ajit Agarkar's record of 133 innings.
