Glenn Maxwell has finally put his retirement rumours to rest

On being asked about his retirement, Maxwell said that he isn't looking that far ahead.

Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has dismissed all the rumours around his retirement, stating that his recent performances have convinced him he still has much to offer the game. Glenn Maxwell has been included in Australia's preliminary squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 which is set to start from February 19. Champions Trophy 2025 could potentially be his last ICC ODI tournament.

Maxwell remains an integral part of Australia's white-ball teams, having participated in the ODI series against both England and Pakistan late last year.  His recent form in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), where he almost single-handedly carried the Melbourne Stars into the playoffs, speaks volume about his prowess and proves he can still leave a massive impact on the field.

Glenn Maxwell brushes off retirement talks

On being asked about his retirement, Maxwell said that he is not looking that far ahead going by his game over the last two months he feels he has still got a lot of cricket left in him.

"I'm not looking that far ahead. The way I have been playing over the last two months is probably giving me a good sign that I've still got a lot of cricket left in my body. The fact that I was able to come back from a hamstring injury, still covering all the hotspots during the Big Bash, get through that fitness wise and still be able to perform with both bat and ball," Maxwell said while speaking on ESPN's Around the Wicket.

"So, I'm confident with where my game is at. So, I can play for a little but longer, probably not like Peter Siddle and maybe not like Dan Christian as well. I'd like to think I've got a couple of years left," Maxwell further stated.

Australia are gearing up for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Notably, they are placed in Group B of the Champions Trophy, alongside Afghanistan, England, and South Africa. Pat Cummins's led Australian team's Champions Trophy will kick off on February 22 against England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Interestingly, this match will mark the first time Glenn Maxwell has played an ODI in Pakistan. Maxwell's recent form has been impressive, as evidenced by his 325 runs in nine Big Bash League matches with a stunning average of 54.16.
