Suryakumar Yadav yet failed to deliver with the bat in the ongoing T20I series against England. India captain Suryakumar Yadav could only score 14 off 7 balls in team's losing cause in the third T20I against England at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium on January 28.
Michael Vaughan slams Suryakumar Yadav's batting approach
Meanwhile, England legend Michael Vaughan has criticised Suryakumar Yadav's batting and advised him to be choose when to be aggressive and when not to. He wants India captain to adopt a more measured approach at the crease before shifting into aggressive mode. Vaughan believes Suryakumar's tendency to attack from the outset has proven detrimental, contributing to his struggles in the ongoing T20I series against England, culminating in India's 26-run defeat in the third T20I in Rajkot.
With India currently leading the five-match series 2-1, concerns over Mumbai batter's form have escalated. The batter has failed to make any impact so far in the series, registering scores of 0, 12, and 14 in the first three matches. His dismissals have primarily resulted from mistimed attacking strokes, either edging the ball to the wicketkeeper or mis-hitting it into the air.
"It's a few times on the trot where he's been getting out to quite soft dismissals. When you say be aggressive all the time, it's choosing the right ball to be aggressive to. Clearly you can't hit every single ball to the boundary and some of these players in this era, they've got so much skill and talent that they think they can. It's just not possible," Vaughan said in an interview with Cricbuzz.
"For India to come back, and I'm sure they will, they're not going to play any worse, I can't imagine in a few days time, but it will need maybe Sky (Suryakumar Yadav) just saying, 'okay, I just need to about 15 balls to give myself in, get myself in, look at the dimensions of the ground'. He's got the game to just go and explode into the boundary hitting mode that wind that we know that he can," Vaughan further added.
India's batting has been up to the mark in the ongoing series against England so far. While individual brilliance, such as Abhishek Sharma's explosive knock in the first T20I and Tilak Varma's match-winning performance in the second, has won India games but the overall collective performance has been lacking.
The third T20I in Rajkot exposed India's batting yet again. Key players like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma all failed to deliver. Apart from Hardik Pandya's 40 runs off 35 balls, no other Indian batter could anchor the innings.
