The Pakistan Cricket Board revealed information regarding the stadium renovations at the three venues selected to host the Champions Trophy games in February and March on January 8 (Wednesday). The timing of the PCB's announcement is noteworthy since, according to several reports on Wednesday morning, the board was having trouble finishing the renovations on schedule.
The PCB "assured the fans, spectators and media that all upgradation work was progressing on schedule and will be completed before or around the set deadlines".
ICC keeping a close eye on the construction
A source close to the development told Sports Tak that ICC is keeping a close eye on the construction of all three venues. He even revealed that as of now there have been no concerns raised by the ICC delegations. There are always contingency plans available for tournaments like these but they won't be required.
The venue is the host association's responsibility even pitches are being worked by the ICC pitch manager if required they oversee it. Pakistan have set the deadline of 25th January which was 31st December initially. The support period of ICC is to begin on 12th February.
Teams are expected to start arriving in Pakistan for the mega tournament from February 12. New Zealand will most likely be the first one to arrive there as the BlackCaps will play the opening game of the marquee event. Bangladesh on the other hand, will be going to Dubai with Team India where they will play their opening match on Feb 20.
India to play practice match in Dubai
Team India will be playing a practice match in Dubai. The date and opponent of the clash are not confirmed as of now. Dubai is the neutral venue of the tournament under the hybrid model policy. All of India's games and one of the semi-finals will be hosted there.
According to the Pakistan board, the National Bank Stadium in Karachi and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore are almost finished with renovations. The Champions Trophy matches will take held in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi from February 19 to March 9. The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host both the second semifinal and the championship game. If India qualifies, the final will be held in Dubai.
